1. What do you wish you knew at my age?
Definitely not. I did not expect to work for a small company. I wanted to work for a larger firm that had established rules that I could follow. Now, I’m making up most of those policies and I know everyone in the company. It’s really a great feeling.
2. What qualities do you need to succeed in this field?
Inquisitive minds. Problem Solving.
3. Can you tell me how your job helps or works with the community?
Hackathons, engage interns, address social issues, do mentoring startups at places such as the Innovation Factory.
4. How do you get to be creative on your job?
I use a lot of post it notes and whiteboarding for planning out information architecture.
5. What does a typical day/week in your job look like?
I work with clients to help solve problems. Typically, when I’m working with them, they have encountered a problem. I need to assess the criticality of the situation and assist as best as I can within the prescribed time frames. I also help with administration, quality assurance and project management/documentation (which is bigger than you might think!)
6. What are the most challenging aspects of your job?
Not everyone works or learns the same. Sometimes what works for one person doesn’t work for the other. I need to be flexible in understanding people and making myself understood to a number of different types of people.
7. What is your motto?
“Jinsei nanakarobi ya’oki” – Life means falling down seven times, getting up eight.
